In 2008 as part of the Strategic Development Program for 2008-2017 in LUKOIL a new business sector - "Electric Power" was set up. Creation of LUKOIL-Grids is based on the allocation of non-core manufacturing subsidiaries of LUKOIL and the displacement of the center of operational responsibility to the specialized electricity distribution company within LUKOIL group. According to the decision of the Board of LUKOIL (Minutes from 19.05.2008 № 15) on 01.07.2008 Limited Liability Company "LUKOIL-Grids” was set up. In the newly created company function of a single network operator of the LUKOIL group were registered carrying out activities in the supply of electricity, maintenance, operational management, maintenance, construction, reconstruction, modernization and repair of electro power grid and equipment.
