International Railway Systems is a Romanian rail vehicle manufacturing company, incorporated in 2002. The same year it has acquired the Meva SA freight wagon factory, later in 2004 - the wagons manufacturer Romvag Caracal and in 2006 - the European division of the Trinity Industries Group - Astra Vagoane Calatori. In 2012, Romvag Caracal, Astra Vagoane Arad and Meva SA entered an insolvency procedure, the assets of the three factories being transferred to a new firm called Astra Rail Industries. In 2016, the American company Greenbrier announced its merger with Astra Rail, forming a joint venture, named Greenbrier-Astra Rail. With a total of over 2400 employees in Romania, Astra Rail Industries SA currently manufactures wagons and bogies.
