Klaipedos Nafta took over the functions and management of Klaipedos Naftos Terminalas, which had been in operation since 1959. The terminal operates in the ice-free Klaipeda Seaport handling export of oil products and crude oil from Mazeikiai, Moscow, Mozyr, Novopolock, Ryazanj, Ufa and other oil refineries. After the reconstruction, which was finished in 2002, the terminal became one of the most modern terminals in Europe. Its designed capacity is 7.1 million tons per year, it has 305 employees. The total storage capacity of the terminal reaches 350 000 m3. Two four-track railway trestles make it possible to load and unload 124 railway cars at a time. Two jetties of the Klaipeda Seaport, dredged to a 14 m depth, service the Panamax type tankers with the capacity of up to 100 tons. In one hour the tankers can be filled with light oil products up to 2 000 m3, dark oil products up to 4 000 m3, and crude oil up to 3800 m3. The Klaipeda oil terminal is one of the first terminals in Europe to have built fume incineration facility, where it burns up to 98 percent of volatile organic compounds collected from tankers, which are serviced by the company on its quay. Each year experts from the companies British Petroleum and Shell assess favorably the civil security, environmental and fire protection of the company. The company renders the following services: Transships crude oil and oil products from railway cars to tankers and unloads crude oil and oil products from tankers into railway cars; Temporary stores (accumulates) crude oil and oil products; Determines quality parameters of oil products; Injects chemical additives into oil products, prepares mixtures of different oil products; Accepts oil-contaminated water from ships; Provides ships with fuel and water; Moors tankers.
