Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (India)

Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited (GETCO) is a company located in Vadodara, Gujarat. It was incorporated in May 1999 and is registered under the Companies Act, 1956. GETCO was established as a wholly owned subsidiary of the erstwhile Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) in order to facilitate the liberalization and restructuring of the power sector. In December 2004, the Government of Gujarat issued a notification regarding the provisional opening balance sheet of the six transferee companies, which included GETCO. This balance sheet contained the value of assets and liabilities transferred from GEB to the transferee companies. The assets of GEB were divided into six companies, with one each in generation and transmission, and four in distribution. The generation plants of GEB were transferred to Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL), an existing company since 1993. In March 2005, the government extended the effective date for the transfer of assets, liabilities, proceedings, and personnel to April 1, 2005, through a notification. Additionally, a holding company called Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) was formed. GUVNL not only performs coordination functions but also handles trading and bulk supply functions.
