Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar Ltd. (BHSL) is a company located in Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was incorporated on November 23, 1931 as 'Hindusthan Sugar Mills Limited' by Shri Jamnalal Bajaj. The company was established to promote industrial growth and inclusive development in the country. The first plant was set up in Gola Gokaran Nath with a capacity of 400 tons of cane crushed per day (TCD), which has now increased to 13,000 TCD. The company also has a distillery unit that initially produced power alcohol during World War II. In 1967, a subsidiary called Sharda Sugar & Industries Limited was established, and a sugar plant with a capacity of 1400 TCD was set up in Palia Kalan. The capacity of the Palia Kalan unit has now increased to 11,000 TCD. In 1988, the company was renamed Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar Limited (BHSL) and later amalgamated with Sharda Sugar & Industries Limited. From 2003-2007, BHSL underwent an aggressive expansion drive, setting up eight plants across the state and increasing its total cane crushing capacity to 96,000 TCD. The company also acquired Pratappur Sugar and Industries Limited in 2005, doubling its crushing capacity to 6,000 TCD. BHSL is now India's largest ethanol producer with an output of 480 Kilolitres Per Day (KLD). The company has also established three Bagasse-based power co-generation plants, with a total power generation capacity of 420.8 MW. BHSL's growth initiative has not only made it a global leader in planning and processes but has also contributed to the rural economy and brought positive change to countless lives in Uttar Pradesh and across India.
