Sberbank d.d. was founded under the name Volksbank d.d. in March 1997. Its initial owner was Austria-based Osterreichische Volksbanken Aktiengesellschaft (OVAG). In 2013 the lender was fully acquired by Sberbank Europe AG, which is owned by Russia's Sberbank. The Russian banking group operates in the CEE region, Russia and the CIS countries, serving over 100 million customers. Its subsidiary Sberbank Europe AG manages a network of nine universal banks in eight countries of Central and Eastern Europe, including Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Ukraine. Zagreb-based Sberbank d.d. provides various financial services to medium-sized and small businesses, foreign representative offices, sole traders, self-employed persons and retail clients. It operates a network of branch offices in over 20 towns and cities across Croatia.
