Banco Coopnacional S.A., located in Guayaquil, was previously known as Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito Nacional Ltda. It was established on March 3, 1978. After achieving success as the best savings and credit cooperative in the country, it changed its name to a bank with the aim of promoting savings. The founders believed in the cooperative and savings system as the best positive instrument for the economic and social development of communities. In its first year of establishment, Banco Coopnacional focused on the convenience of its members and opened Agency No. 1 in Gómez Rendón and Tungurahua, a populous area of the city. This was well-received as people understood the benefits they could receive and the mission the institution aimed to fulfill. After a few months of intense humanitarian work, people from other sectors requested the presence of Banco Coopnacional to be protected by the symbol of Cooperativa Nacional. To meet these needs and satisfy the demands of the popular sectors, Agency No. 2 was inaugurated on January 15, 1980, in Maracaibo and Los Ríos. With 20,000 members in the three offices at that time, the institution was also requested by small and large traders in the market centers. In response to these requirements, Agency No. 3 was opened on August 23, 1980, on 6 de Marzo between Colón and Alcedo. Currently, Banco Coopnacional S.A. has its headquarters and three branches located in the city of Guayaquil. The company expresses perpetual gratitude to all its customers and shareholders who have allowed it to become a symbol of the National Financial System.
