The National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC) is a public national-agency, attached to the Ministry of Justice and Law. Its core mandate is to exercise custody, surveillance, care and treatment of persons deprived of liberty under judicial sentence, as well as oversight of electronic security mechanisms and execution of mandated unpaid social work.
