Instituto Nacional Penitenciario y Carcelario (Colombia)

The National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC) is a public national-agency, attached to the Ministry of Justice and Law. Its core mandate is to exercise custody, surveillance, care and treatment of persons deprived of liberty under judicial sentence, as well as oversight of electronic security mechanisms and execution of mandated unpaid social work. INPEC also assumes responsibility for prison-system administration - including a network of regional penitentiary establishments across multiple departments, inmate social and rehabilitative programs, and institutional logistics support via its operative and administrative structure. Geographic scope and reach: national coverage across Colombia, with central headquarters in Bogotá and regional offices serving all regions. Key assets: nationwide penitentiary infrastructure, institutional administrative and security apparatus, inmate registry and custody systems, rehabilitative and social-reintegration programs. Strategic focus and positioning: maintain public order through secure prison administration, implement policies of resocialization and human rights compliance, modernize prison operations and management, and support public-security objectives defined by the Government.
