K+S Chile was born after the purchase of Punta de Lobos S.A. "SPL", by the German K+S Group, one of the leading conglomerates worldwide, both in the supply of fertilizers and products for care of plants and salt. As a consequence of the above, K+S Chile assumed the leadership in the American continent, becoming leader in the salt business. K+S Chile operates one of the world's largest open-pit sodium chloride deposits, Salar Grande de Tarapaca. This site, located 90 kilometers south-east of the city of Iquique, presents unique and privileged characteristics, among which its salt of high purity; the low content of bromine and heavy metals; the absence of organic content and stable chemical quality controllable, in addition to its proximity to the coasts and, in particular, the Maritime Terminals of Patillos I and II. The surface of the salar comprises an extension of 45 kilometers long, 5 kilometers wide, and between 60 and 120 meters deep. More than 100 years of experience has enabled the company to develop an optimum industrial process to be among the world's leading salt producers with a capacity of up to 8 million tonnes per year.
