West East Bank was set up in November 2002 by the Slovenian capital. The lender received a full licence from the central bank in August 2003.
In March 2006, Slovenia's Nova Ljubljanska Banka (NLB) acquired 97% of West-East Bank for an undisclosed sum. The new owner renamed the lender into NLB West-East Bank two months later. In 2009 the name was changed to NLB Bank Sofia.
In mid-2011, Netherlands' TBIF Financial Service acquired complete control of NLB Bank Sofia and renamed it TBI Bank.
