Veneto Bank Sh.a. is one of the first commercial banks to be established in Albania after the fall of the communist regime in the country. It was founded under the name Dardania Bank in 1994 by ethnic Albanians from Kosovo with an initial capital of USD 5.2 million. In June 2005, the Italian businessman Francesco Mariano and Italy’s Banca Popolare Pugliese acquired 100% in Dardania Bank in EUR 5.0 million deal. After the sale, the bank was renamed to Italian Development Bank or Banca Italiana di Sviluppo (BIS). In January 2008, Italy-based Veneto Banca expressed intentions to acquire control of Italian Development Bank. In December 2008, Banca Popolare Publiese sold its stake of 76.83% to Veneto Banca for an undisclosed amount and in early 2009, Veneto Banca increased its ownership to 100%. Later the same year Italian Development Bank was renamed to Veneto Bank.
The Albanian lender offers a wide range of banking services and products to individual as well as corporate clients.
