Investment in China’s real estate sector accelerated in the first quarter of 2017. The value of investment reached RMB 2,129bn, which represented a growth of 10.4% compared to that in the previous quarter. Investment in the residential subsector was RMB 1,470bn, up by 13.3% y/y, while investment in office and commercial buildings declined by 0.1% y/y and 6.5% y/y, respectively. The value of buildings sold in the first quarter of the year reached RMB 2,560bn, up from RMB 2,138bn in the same quarter of the previous year. The growth was entirely attributed to sales of new buildings, while the secondary market continued to decline sharply. In Q1 2018, the value of sales on the secondary market was RMB 400.9bn, down by 14.9% y/y, while the sales of off-plan properties were RMB 2,159bn, up by 16.9% compared to the first quarter of 2017.
