UniCredit Bank Serbia is registered to provide banking services associated with payment transfers, credit and deposit activities. The lender offers a full range of banking services and products to retail and corporate clients.
HVB Bank in Belgrade was set up in December 2001 with a greenfield bank licence from the Serbian central bank.
In end-November 2004, Bank Austria Creditanstalt (BA-CA), part of the HVB Group, signed an agreement to purchase 58.7% in Serbia's 11th largest bank by assets Eksimbanka for at least EUR 10 million. In early December 2004, BA-CA placed a binding offer to all Eksimbanka's minority shareholders, offering CSD 3,688 per share for the remaining 41.3% equity in the bank. At the end of the month, Bank Austria said it had bought up 98.3% of the Serbian bank.
In October 2005, the Austrian bank merged its subsidiary in the country HVB Bank Serbia and Montenegro with Eksimbanka, creating a financial institution whose assets exceed EUR 400 million.
In April 2007, HVB Bank Serbia and Montenegro was renamed into UniCredit banka Srbija in a move reflecting the merger of Italian UniCredit Bank with German HVB Group, which owns the lender through Bank Austria Creditanstalt.
UniCredit Bank Serbia operates more than 70 branch offices throughout the country.
