Lafage Beocin Cement Factory is the oldest and largest cement producer in Serbia with production capacity of nearly 1.5 million tones of cement per year. Production process is carrying out in 9 vertical and 3 rotating kilns. Beocin sales its products on domestic market only. Row materials for the production process are supplied mainly from the domestic market.
In 2002, 70% of the factory capital was acquired by French company Lafarge for EUR 59.89 million. In order to upgrade the plant to Lafarge's environmental standards and to allow the use of alternative fuels, Lafarge Group had to finance a 5-year investment programme for EUR 36 million.
In 2000, Beocin had 37% share in sales of cement in FR of Yugoslavia which increased in 2002 to 45%.
In mid-2008, Lafarge increased its stake in the company to 99.3%. The plant sold 1 million tonnes of cement in 2009, compared to 1.3 million in 2008.
