Serbia's top fruit-juice maker Fresh & Co, which was established in 1996, is based in Subotica, the country's northernmost city bordering Hungary.
The company is known primarily for its Next brand of fruit juices exported worldwide.
Fresh & Co exports to Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and other countries.
In 2003, the company received a EUR 12.5 million equity investment from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to expand operations and introduce PET-aseptic packaging.
In March 2006, Greek soft drink bottling company Coca-Cola HBC agreed to acquire, jointly with world's largest soft drink maker Coca-Cola Co., a 100% stake in Fresh & Co. for EUR 18.5 million.
The new owners also agreed to settle a EUR 23.6 million debt of the Serbian company.
CCHBC's share of the purchase price and debt was EUR 21 million.
This was the second acquisition of Coca-Cola HBC in Serbia - in February 2005 the Greek firm bought 100% of Serbian water bottler Vlasinka for EUR 21.5 million.
In November 2009, Balkaninvest Holdings Limited was liquidated – it was replaced by Amsterdam-based Coca-Cola HBC Balkan Holding, which was incorporated in March 2009, and the shares in the Serbian unit were transferred to the newly established entity.
