Serbia's Carlsberg Srbija brewery, former Pivara Celarevo, which was established in 1892, has the capacity to produce 130 million litres of beer a year.
The firm, located in the town of Celarevo in the Vojvodina province, was nationalised by the communist regime after World War II.
In mid-1990s, it was transformed into a joint-stock company owned by around 1,200 shareholders, primarily private individuals, of whom approximately 75% were employed in the brewery.
In September 2003, Denmark's Carlsberg acquired a 51% stake in Pivara Celarevo for EUR 53 million.
Next month, Carlsberg paid EUR 26 million for the remaining 49% stake of the brewery.
The Danish brewer pledged to invest substantial funding over the next seven years to boost production and sales of Celarevo's sole brand Lav, as well as its own Tuborg and Carlsberg brands.
In April 2010, the company opened a EUR 5 million wastewater treatment plant.
Carlsberg Srbija claimed a 26.5% stake of the local beer market in mid-2010.
