Pequiven was founded in 1977 assuming the operations of the Venezuelan Petrochemical Institute (IVP), founded in 1955. The company is the Venezuelan state corporation responsible for producing and marketing of basic petrochemical products with priority to the domestic market and export capacity. It has 22 subsidiaries and 9 joint ventures, serving as a whole marketing 3 units: Fertilizers, Industrial and Olefins and Plastics. Pequiven is a subsidiary of state oil company PDVSA and since 31st of December 2005 operates under the authority of the country's energy and mines ministry.
