Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL) is a company located in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. It was incorporated in 1954 and began production of cement that same year. Over the years, TCL has experienced significant trading losses and received subsidies from the government. In 1986, a new government implemented a financial restructuring plan, leading to divestments, improved manufacturing operations, and an aggressive marketing campaign. TCL re-entered the export market in the same year and achieved profitable trading in 1988. In 1990, the company was privatized and is currently owned by several key shareholders, including CEMEX, the National Insurance Board, the Trinidad and Tobago Unit Trust Corporation, and the TCL Employee Share Ownership Plan. Despite challenges such as competition from international competitors and a strike in 2012, TCL has successfully navigated through them.
