SHP Harmanec, located in Harmanec, is a paper manufacturing company that was established in 1829 by František Zikmund Leicht. Originally a handmade paper manufacturer, it became one of the most advanced paperworks in Austria-Hungary in the mid-19th century. In the early 20th century, the company started producing hygienic paper products, including folded toilet paper under the Hermandol brand and hand-cut paper napkins. During World War 2, the product range expanded to include feminine pads and baby nappies made of artificial cotton. In 1972, the company introduced a paper machine and began manufacturing hygienic papers using waste paper as a raw material. SHP Harmanec continues to be a modern and dynamic company, investing approximately EUR 6 million annually in technology development and process modernization. In 2002, the company was renamed SHP Harmanec and became part of the SHP Group, which focuses on the production and distribution of hygienic paper products.
