Onkologicky Ustav Sv. Alzbety, S.R.O. (Slovakia)

Onkologicky Ustav sv. Alzbety, s.r.o. is a modern non-state healthcare facility located in Bratislava, Slovakia. It was established in the premises of the Hospital of St. Elizabeth, which was founded in the mid-18th century by the Sisters of the Order of St. Elizabeth. The hospital initially served the care of seriously ill, abandoned, and impoverished individuals. In the first half of the 20th century, a department dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases was established within the Hospital of St. Elizabeth. Shortly after the end of World War II, this department evolved into the Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment. In 1950, the Hospital of St. Elizabeth was nationalized, and the premises housed the Institute of Experimental Oncology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Clinical Oncology, which served as a center for oncological diagnosis and treatment. Following the restitution of church property in the early 1990s, the hospital was returned to the Order of St. Elizabeth, which established the Onkologicky Ustav sv. Alzbety in its premises on January 1, 1996. Today, the Onkologicky Ustav sv. Alzbety is a modern non-state healthcare facility that caters to the needs of oncology patients from across Slovakia. The institute is part of a network of healthcare facilities and has contractual relationships with all health insurance companies operating in Slovakia. The institute consists of seven departments with a total capacity of 203 beds, including surgical, gynecological oncology, maxillofacial surgery, intensive care, internal medicine, radiation therapy, and nuclear medicine departments. Additionally, it operates 25 outpatient departments, 74 specialized clinics, and the Pharmacy of St. Elizabeth, which serves the needs of the institute and the general public.
