In 1852 a Dutch trader Baron de Valbela in St. Petersburg opened a tobacco company, which in 1869 was transformed into a "partnership of tobacco factories Laferm." A year later the tobacco factory moved to a new location with Nevsky Prospekt on Vasilevsky Island. Soon there appeared the most advanced technology at that time, which allowed, in particular, for the first time in the country to master the production of cigarettes. By the Decree of the Council of People\'s Commissars of 28.06.1918 all tobacco factories became the property of the state and the company was renamed into "The 1st People\'s tobacco factory", and in 1923 the factory Laferm became known as the "First im. Uritskogo tobacco factory." In 1992 the factory was bought the U.S. RJR. In 1995 “Peter I” was launched cigarettes, and then developed Russia\'s first premium cigarette brand "Russian Style" and put into production of international brands Winston, Camel, Salem, Magna, etc. In 1999 the company was bought by Japanese company JT International and became known as "Petro". Subsequent investments in the "Petro" turned the factory into a modern industrial complex and the world’s industry\'s largest tobacco factory of JTI.
