Bacau airport has been opened for public transportation of passengers and cargo since the 1st of April 1946. Because of the increased internal and international air traffic, on the 30th of December 1975, Bacau Airport was declared through presidential decree an international airport. In 2002, through Government Decision, this status was acknowledged again.
Since 1997, Bacau Airport has been placed in the administration of the Local Council of Bacau.
