On December 15, 1871 the „Adevarulu” newspapaer was founded in Iasi by Alexandru Beldiman. „Adevarul” newspaper is closed in March 1951 by the Communist authorities. In the first days after the 1989 Revolution the official Communist newspaper, Scînteia, changed its name first into "Scînteia Poporului", and then into "Adevarul", the editing team initially being the same.
On July 24, 2006, Adevarul SA's main stake (60%) was bought by Rompetrol Holding from Ana Maria Tinu.
