The history of Banco Familiar goes back to 1967, when a group of well-known merchants who gave credits to their customers, decided to form a company, which they named Credito Familiar. The venture was growing and, in 1992, became Financiera Familiar. A pioneer in the interior of the country, Banco Familiar currently offers an extensive National Network of Branches operating in Asuncion and in different locations in the interior of the country, and through which it serves customers and the general public. Both active and passive products were diversified, and the original consumer credit in installments, the offer was extended to the issuance of credit cards and credits for micro, small and medium enterprises. At the same time, it currently provides savings account services for sight and fixed term, the issuance of time deposit certificates, both in local currency and in foreign currency; the sending and receiving of drafts and remittances, currency exchanges, etc. In 1997, to become part of the business of credit card issuance, Bancard entered as a shareholder in Bancard, a leader in processing and member of Visa and MasterCard International; having participated actively since then in the Directory of the organization. In April 2003, the merger with FIGESA (Financiera General S.A.) was completed, which resulted in the creation of the Nueva Financiera Familiar, which combines the high expertise and long track record in the retail business of Financiera Familiar with the structure and significant experience in corporate and agribusinesses of FIGESA, thus broadening the range of products and market segments and allowed it to increase its strength and position in the financial market. Continuing its development as a company the financial institution was authorized to operate as a bank on November 17, 2008.
