The University of Warsaw, located in Warsaw, was established in 1816 under the name Royal University of Warsaw. It is the largest, best, and one of the oldest higher education institutions in Poland, as well as the longest-running university in the capital city. Initially, the university consisted of five faculties: Law, Medicine, Philosophy, Theology, and Fine Arts, and currently, there are 25 faculties. The University employs 7,800 staff members, including academic teachers (4,000) as well as administrative staff and librarians. UW is one of the largest employers in the Mazovia region and surpasses most corporations listed in Forbes' ranking of the largest companies in Poland in terms of the number of employees.
