Polskie Zakłady Lotnicze Sp. z o.o., located in Mielec, is one of the largest aircraft manufacturers in Poland and the largest production facility of Lockheed Martin outside of the United States. For 85 years, the Mielec plant has been involved in the design, production, and servicing of airplanes and helicopters. The company plays a significant role in the economic and defense sectors, and is responsible for a substantial portion of Poland's defense exports. It is also a key member and one of the founders of the Dolina Lotnicza Aviation Industry Cluster Association, which holds the status of a National Key Cluster and drives economic development not only in the region but also in the entire aviation industry in the country. In 2015, Sikorsky and PZL Mielec were acquired by Lockheed Martin, a global defense and aerospace company based in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. Lockheed Martin employs 116,000 people worldwide and is primarily engaged in research, design, development, production, integration, and sustainment of advanced technological systems, products, and services.
