Pakistan International Airlines Corporation was established on 23rd October 1946 which was initially registered as a pilot project in Calcutta, Orient Airways Ltd. In 1947 an operating license was obtained by the company and four Douglas DC-3s were purchased for the designed route Calcutta-Akyab-Rangoon. After that a transportation of people between Delhi and Karachi was started. Then the government of Pakistan decided to form a state-owned airline and invited Orient Airways to merge with it. The outcome was (PIAC) Pakistan International Airlines Corporation. Today the company is provider of commercial air transportation (passenger, cargo and postal carriage services) in addition to the provision of engineering and other allied services. Overall, the company operates through three segments: airline operations, hotel operations and others. In the hotel services are included accommodation and related services in Pakistan, United States and Europe.
