Shougang Hierro Perú S.A.A. belongs to the Shougang Corporation, with headquarters in Beijung, China, a company that is recognized as an economic conglomerate that develops its activities in the field of iron and steel, manufacture of electronic equipment, construction, maritime transport, among others. Shougang Hierro, is dedicated to the extraction and processing of iron in the desert area of the district of San Juan de Marcona, in the province of Nazca, region of Ica. Originally, the deposit was exploited by the American capital company, Marcona Mining Company, later, the territory passed to the hands of the State, under the name of Minera del Hierro del Peru. In 1992, the company was sold to the Shougang Corporation, being the eighth transfer of a state-owned company. The Shougang Iron Concessions at Marcona comprise 17 independent mines, of which 63 have been explored and 54 have proven iron reserves. In January 2011, Shougang signed an agreement with Baiyin Nonferrous Group Co Ltd, to form the company Minera Shouxin Péru S.A. The company has been listed on the stock exchange since 1999.
