Minera Yanacocha SRL, founded in 1992 as a gold mining company, located in the district, province and northern Cajamarca region. The mine property covers an area of 30,000 hectares and is situated in the four watersheds. Yanacocha mine owns three active opencast Cerro Yanacocha, Quinoa and Chaquicocha. Additionally, there are ongoing recovery and fill in the fields of mines Carachugo, San José and Maqui Maqui. The company is a subsidiary of Newmont Mining Corporation, and Compania de Minas Buenaventura SAA, two major gold producers in the world.
