Sharqiyah Desalination Company SAOG is a closed joint stock company located in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. It was registered and incorporated on January 14, 2007. The company's main purpose is to acquire, operate, and maintain a water desalination plant with a capacity of 2.66 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) in Sur. Additionally, the company aims to build, operate, and maintain a new water desalination plant with a capacity of 17.66 MIGD in the Sharqiyah region of Oman. In 2009, the parent company, Veolia Eau Compagnie Generale des Eaux, transferred its water and waste water activities and interests in the Middle East and North Africa to a company called Azaliya SAS, which later changed its name to Veolia Water Middle East SAS in 2015. In June 2013, 35% of the company's shares were offered to the public through an initial public offering (IPO) on the Muscat Security Market. As a result, the company became a listed public joint stock company (SAOG). On July 10, 2014, the company signed an amended agreement to facilitate the expansion of its plant. This expansion increased the combined capacity of the plant from 17.66 MIGD to 29 MIGD. The amended agreement also extended the term of the Water Purchase Agreement (WPA) by 20 years, starting from the completion of the new plant.
