Macedonia’s Capital Bank was established in 1996 under the name SBS Agro Bank by Russia's largest private retail bank SBS-Agro.
After several ownership changes and company transformations, in 2007 an over 95%-stake in the lender was bought by Bulgarian private investment company Alpha Finance Holding for MKD 491.2 million (EUR 8 million). The Macedonian bank's name was changed to Capital Bank in the beginning of 2008.
