Sunshine Holdings Plc is a conglomerate located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Established in 1967 as a medical enterprise, the company has grown over the past five decades to become one of the most respected conglomerates on the island. With a workforce of over 2,500 employees, Sunshine Holdings is valued at US$150 million. The company has achieved several key milestones throughout its history. In 1977, Sunshine Holdings opened its first 'super centre' store in Kandy, offering a wide range of products under one roof. In 1992, the company entered into a joint venture with Tata Tea and acquired Watawala Plantations, becoming a major player in the branded tea business. In 2002, Sunshine Holdings was listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange. The company expanded its operations in the healthcare sector with the establishment of Healthguard Pharmacy in 2003 and the launch of the Healthguard retail chain in 2005. Sunshine Holdings has also made significant investments in renewable energy, including the commissioning of its first mini hydro power plant in 2012. The company has been recognized for its achievements, including being named the number one branded tea company in Sri Lanka and receiving certifications for sustainable practices. In 2021, Sunshine Holdings merged its healthcare sector with Akbar Pharmaceuticals and made investments in the dairy industry. The company continues to expand its consumer business segment, recently acquiring Daintee Ltd. Throughout its history, Sunshine Holdings has been recognized for its excellence and achievements. The company has received awards and certifications, including being named one of the 'Most Admired Companies of Sri Lanka' and receiving recognition for its workplace environment.
