Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) is a company headquartered in Hyderabad, India. It was incorporated on July 16, 1970, as a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. BDL serves as the manufacturing base for guided missile systems and allied equipment for the Indian Armed Forces. The company collaborates with DRDO and foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to manufacture and supply various missiles and allied equipment to the Indian Armed Forces. BDL has played a significant role in the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP) and has been identified as the Prime Production Agency. The company has state-of-the-art facilities for manufacturing and supplying guided missiles, underwater weapons, airborne products, and allied defense equipment. It also offers Product Life Cycle Support and Refurbishment/Life Extension of vintage missiles. Over the years, BDL has evolved from being a missile manufacturer to a Weapon System Integrator, providing complete solutions for the Indian Armed Forces. The company has four manufacturing units located in Telangana State (Hyderabad, Bhanur, and Ibrahimpatnam) and one in Andhra Pradesh (Visakhapatnam). BDL is also setting up a new unit in Amravati, Maharashtra, to meet the growing demands of the Armed Forces. BDL manufactures various types of indigenously designed and developed missiles and underwater weapons, with support from DRDO. One of its notable products is the Akash Weapon System, a Surface-to-Air indigenous Missile. BDL also manufactures the Heavy Weight Torpedo and Light Weight Torpedo developed by NSTL, DRDO, at its Visakhapatnam Unit. The company is now set to produce the 'Beyond Visual Range' Astra Weapon System for the Indian Armed Forces, developed by DRDO. In addition to serving the Indian Armed Forces, BDL exports its products. The company is actively involved in the manufacturing and sale of guided missiles and allied equipment, including launchers, countermeasures dispensing systems, test equipment, mechanized infantry weapons, and anti-submarine warfare suite.
