Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd. (BALCO) is a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) incorporated in 1965 in India. In 2001, the Government of India divested 51% of BALCO's shares to Sterlite Industries Limited, a subsidiary of Vedanta Limited. BALCO plays a crucial role in introducing aluminium as an alternative to other metals in construction and power transmission industries. Its major operations are located in Korba, Chhattisgarh, with mines supplying high-grade bauxite in Kawardha and Mainpat. BALCO's smelter capacity produces 345 KTPA through modern Prebake Technology. It also has a smelter of capacity 245 KTPA established in 2004. The company is supported by uninterrupted power supply through captive power plants. BALCO produces high-quality ingots, wire rods, busbars, and rolled products. It is one of the leading wire rod manufacturers globally. The company also produces primary aluminium ingots and rolled products for various applications. BALCO supplies primary foundry alloys and has metal treatment facilities for AlSi. The registered office of BALCO is located in New Delhi, and it has marketing departments in Korba and Mumbai.
