PT. Sinar Mas Agro Resources and Technology Tbk. (SMAR) is engaged in the production of palm oil products. The scope of activities comprises mainly plantation exploitation, agriculture, trading, refinery of plantation products and manufacturing of packaging products, and management services and research related to the business. The Group's products consist of refined palm products such as cooking oil, fat and margarine and crude palm oil (CPO), palm kernel, palm kernel oil and packaging products such as bottles and caps. The company started its commercial operations in 1962. SMAR is located in Jakarta. The factories and plantations under the Group's plantation division are located in North Sumatera, Jambi, Pekanbaru, Bangka, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan, while the factories under the refinery division are located in Surabaya and Medan. SMAR produce a full range of refined branded products, such as cooking oil, margarine, butter oil substitute, shortening and fats for end-customers, restaurants, hotels and cafes as well as industrial markets. The products are marketed locally and internationally in China, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Central America. SMAR has subsidiaries which are engaged in cultivation of oil palm plantation and operation of mill, investment holding, and cultivation of ornamental plants, organic chemical industry and Transportation Company. SMAR was listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange in 1992 under the Development Board.
