ATEV Feherjefeldolgozo Zrt. is a company located in Budapest, Hungary. It was founded in 1949 under the name Animal Protein Feed Production Company and later became a joint-stock company in 1993. Since 2006, it has been operating as a closed joint-stock company. The main shareholders of the company are the Hungarian State through the Hungarian National Asset Management Zrt. (71.85%) and the National Asset Management Zrt. (28.15%). ATEV Zrt. employs an average of 420 people and its activities are of great importance in terms of public health, animal health, epidemic control, hygiene, environmental protection, and the economy. The company processes by-products and raw materials in four factories (Debrecen, Hódmezővásárhely, Mátyásdomb, Solt) and collects and transfers raw materials in four collection and transfer locations (Bőny, Böhönye, Debrecen, Hódmezővásárhely). Over the years, there has been an increasing emphasis on the proper and safe disposal of animal by-products due to the gradual prioritization of epidemic and public health regulations. After Hungary's accession to the EU, the relevant EU legislation prohibited the burial and placement of animal waste in carcass pits. This gave ATEV Zrt. a prominent role in collecting, disposing, processing, and utilizing animal by-products classified into different categories (1, 2, 3) according to their risk, handling method, and usability of products derived from animal by-products, in compliance with EU and domestic regulations. ATEV Zrt. disposes of category 1 animal by-products in its Solt factory, while category 2 animal by-products are treated in the Solt and Debrecen factories. The Hódmezővásárhely and Mátyásdomb factories of ATEV Zrt. process category 3 slaughterhouse by-products that can be used for feed purposes. All of the company's processing factories operate with environmental permits, and strict compliance with regulations and environmentally conscious technological developments (such as wastewater treatment technologies and energy improvements) ensure that the emissions from their facilities do not pose a danger to the environment. ATEV Zrt. has been a member of the European Fat Processors and Renderers Association (EFPRA) since 2005. The organization aims to represent the interests of the sector in the European Union, participate in legislative processes, and represent the respective member country through its delegates. Currently, EFPRA has 35 members in 26 European countries.
