Sinai Cement (SCEM) was established in 1997 by private investors, as a cement producer and marketer. The company's founders maintained 50.72 percent of its capital, leaving 49.28 percent to be traded publicly. The company is part of a larger investment group known as the SAMA Group.
Sinai Cement is mainly engaged in the manufacture and packing of different types of cement and cement-related products. Sinai Cement has contracted with Sama Sinai for Investment Company to supply it with Kraft Paper, which is used for cement packaging. The Company has investment stakes in various affiliates and sister companies, including Sinai Cement Services Company. Sinai Cement maintains one of the largest white cement production lines, located south of Al-Arish.
In 2001, the company partnered with the Danish Aalborg group and began producing white cement through a LE 300 million investment in Sinai White Portland Cement Company.
In 2003, the company increased its paid-in capital to LE 350 million through a strategic partnership with the French-based Ciments Vicat.
