Banque du Caire is one of a leader in the banking sector in Egypt and provides its customers with a wide range of banking services through its network of branches in Egypt. Banque du Caire was established in 1952 as a private bank and was later nationalized in 1961. In February 1964, a ministerial decree was issued and Union Commercial Bank was merged into Banque du Caire. The period between the mid 1970s up until 2000 witessed Banque du Caire going into many mergers with banks like Banque Nationale de Paris, Barclays Bank, as well as several Korean banks. However the last of these mergers was ended in 2000 when Barclays Bank bought out Banque du Caire's stake in Banque du Caire Barclays International. Banque du Caire is currently fully owned by Banque Misr, yet the former still retains its individual legal entity and name. The bank provides it's banking services through a network containing 231 branches and banking units, and 339 ATMs located across the country. The bank is governed by Law 88/2003
