Unicomer de Ecuador S.A. is a company located in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It was founded with Peruvian capital and initially operated as an assembly plant for household appliances under the name ELTESA. The company later changed its strategy to focus on retail sales of appliances. It opened two stores in Quito and Guayaquil and rebranded as Artefacta, Artefactos Ecuatorianos para el Hogar. Over the years, Artefacta expanded its product line to include motorcycles, cell phones, desktops, and laptops. In 2008, the company adopted a new advertising concept featuring the "Family of Appliances," which improved brand recognition and campaign results. In 2011, Artefacta achieved record sales and opened 98 stores in 43 cities, thanks to innovative credit methods and promotions. Artefacta was acquired by Unicomer Group, a leading retailer of appliances and furniture in Latin America and the Caribbean, in the same year. In 2018, the brand was recognized as the most influential in its category on social media in Ecuador. Currently, Artefacta operates 152 stores nationwide and holds the top market share in the Ecuadorian appliance market.
