Corporacion Dominicana de Empresas Electricas Estatales was founded in 1955 when the government acquired the "Compania Electrica de Santo Domingo", in 1997 under the law No. 141-97 the government made a capitalization of the company and finally in 2001 was incorporated officially under its current name. It is a company that leads and coordinates the utilities carry out state programs for electrification in rural and suburban communities for low-income and the administration and enforcement of contracts for electrical energy supply with independent power producers.
