Grupo Argos S.A. (Colombia)

Grupo Argos was established in Medellín (Colombia) on February 27, 1934 with the founding of Compania de Cemento Argos S.A., a producer of Portland cement. In 1998 it stopped producing cement and has devoted exclusively to investment activity primarily in companies producing and selling cement and concrete. In 2005, the company changed its name to Inversiones Argos S.A. and merged all cement producing companies in Colombia under the name Cementos Argos S.A.
Today the Group invests in companies that make non-renewable natural resources into products and services with high added value for the development of the basic sectors of the economy, with business participation in cement, energy, coal, ports and real estate sectors. The value of the Groupo Argos strategic investments at the end of 2012 was distributed by 54% in the cement business, 18% in energy, 22% in real estate, 3% in the coal and 3% in the ports. It also has investments in the financial portfolio through Grupo Sura and Bancolombia, and in the food industry, through Grupo Nutresa. On 31st December, 2012, the portfolio investments reached 7.1 billion pesos.
