The Company, an internet technology company, provides online services in the fields of content, community, communication, and commerce in China.
It operates through three segments: Learning Services, Smart Devices, and Online Marketing Services. The Company provides various learning content, applications, and solutions, which cover topics and target people from various age groups for their learning needs through its websites and mobile applications. It also offers online knowledge tools, which include Youdao and other dictionaries and translation tools; learning services consisting of tutoring, fee-based premium, and other services; STEAM courses through Youdao Premium Courses; and adult, vocational courses through NetEase Cloud Classroom, such as foreign language, post-graduate school entrance exam prep, vocational education, and digital skills training courses; and other courses consisting of China University MOOC courses. In addition, the Company provides smart devices comprising Youdao Dictionary Pen, and Youdao Listening Pod, and Youdao Smart Learning Pad; education digitalization solutions, such as technologies and solutions licensed to schools or enterprise customers, including Youdao Smart Learning Terminal, Youdao Sports, and Youdao Smart Cloud; and online marketing services consisting of performance-based and brand advertising services.
HISTORY
2006 The Company commenced its operations in March 2006 through NetEase Youdao Information Technology (Beijing), Co., Ltd., or Youdao Information.
2007 In September 2007, Beijing NetEase Youdao Computer System Co., Ltd., or Youdao Computer, was incorporated in the PRC. The Company conducted its business through both Youdao Information and Youdao Computer and they were then controlled by NetEase.
2014
In 2014, the Company strategically shifted its focus to the intelligent learning industry. Since then, the Company has successfully developed a variety of technology-driven learning products and services, including Youdao Premium Courses.
In November 27, 2014, the Company, its current ultimate holding company, was incorporated under the laws of the Cayman Islands. The Company, its subsidiaries and consolidated variable interest entity (“VIE”), together are referred to as “the Group” or “Youdao Group”.
2019
In May 2019, the Company acquired certain online learning businesses, including NetEase Cloud Classroom, China University MOOC and NetEase Kada, from the NetEase Group, as the Company believe these offerings generally appeal to different target audiences from, and as a result complement, Youdao Premium Courses, its existing online course brand and enable us to reach a broader student base.
The Company s common stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “DAO.” on October 25, 2019.
