Zurich Chile SegurosGenerales S.A. is a company located in Santiago, Chile. It was incorporated in 1853 as the Compañía Chilena de Seguros, making it the first national insurance company and the oldest in Latin America. The company was initially focused on insuring fire and maritime risks. It quickly issued its first policy just two days after its founding, which was directed to General Ramón Herrera for a fire insurance on a property in Cochrane Street, Valparaíso. The company played a significant role in the insurance industry by becoming a founding member of the Federación Interamericana de Empresas de Seguros (FIDES), a non-profit organization representing 22 countries in Latin America, the United States, and the Iberian Peninsula. Jorge Bande, the General Manager of Chilena Consolidada at the time, was appointed as the first President of FIDES. After becoming part of the Zurich Group, the company benefited from the capabilities of the Zurich world and focused on becoming the best provider of protection and savings solutions in the Chilean market, serving both individuals and businesses. Zurich Chile SegurosGenerales S.A. is backed by Zurich Insurance Co.
