Sociedad Hipodromo Chile S.A. is a company located in Santiago, Chile. It was incorporated in the early 1900s by a group of horse enthusiasts, including breeders, owners, trainers, and fans. The company's main objective is to promote the improvement and propagation of horse breeds in the country. Under the leadership of Pedro del Rio Talavera, the company held its first race meeting on September 19, 1904, on leased land in the southern part of the Aguada ravine. However, the founders desired more suitable land for the construction of a racecourse. They purchased a property in the northern part of Santiago, known as La Palma, and construction of the current Hipodromo Chile racecourse began on December 1, 1905. The first public race meeting took place on November 15, 1906, with great success, featuring six races of varying distances. To enhance the prestige of its meetings, the company's board of directors created its first classic races, including the "Gran Premio Hipodromo Chile," which is now an international race that continues to attract the interest of fans. According to the company's current bylaws, its objectives include promoting horse breeding, sales, import, and export of thoroughbred racehorses, establishing suitable training centers for horses, organizing and promoting sports events, races, exhibitions, and competitions. The company also aims to provide entertainment and benefits to its members and engage in investments related to its objectives.
