Sociedad Concesionaria Tunel El Melon II S.A. (Chile)

On September 13, 1995, the El Melon Tunnel was inaugurated, becoming the first work built and operated under the Public Works Concession System. After 20 years of operation, in 2015 the Ministry of Public Works initiated the process of re-adjudication of the concession of the El Melon Tunnel, awarding the project to the consortium made up of the Chilean construction companies Belfi, Conpax and AURA, all recognized for their extensive experience in the execution of large-scale engineering works. Thus Sociedad Concesionaria Tunel El Melon II S.A. was born, responsible for executing US $ 110 million of investment destined, among others, to raise the current standards of road safety, to modernize the equipment of the existing tunnel and to further reduce travel times through the construction of a new tunnel and the complementation of the current toll collection system with the free flow electronic system, where the latter will start operating from the start of Phase 2.
