Esval is a company dedicated to the production and distribution of drinking water, and collection, decontamination and disposal of sewage, which also performs services related to these activities. Esval was the first sanitary company in the country to incorporate private capital, through a process that began in April 1999. Since then, the company has invested more than US $ 370 million, of which US $ 200 million went for decontamination of wastewater; all aimed to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the Region of Valparaiso. In early 2006, Esval inaugurated San Antonio's sanitation system, which completed 100% decontamination of the region's rivers and beaches. Meanwhile, the Coquimbo Region - whose sanitary concession was awarded in November 2003 to Aguas del Valle, a subsidiary of Esval - is also close to completing 100% decontamination of its waters.
