ENEL Americas S.A. is a private electric company located in Santiago, Chile. It was incorporated on June 19, 1981, when the Chilean Electric Company S.A. created a new corporate structure, including a parent company and three subsidiary companies. One of these subsidiaries was the Chilean Metropolitan Electric Distribution Company S.A. In 1985, as part of the privatization policy implemented by the Chilean government, the ownership of the Chilean Metropolitan Electric Distribution Company S.A. was transferred to the private sector, a process that concluded on August 10, 1987. This transfer involved the participation of pension fund administrators, company employees, institutional investors, and thousands of small shareholders. The company's organizational structure was based on operational activities or functions, with performance evaluated functionally and profitability limited by a tariff scheme due to the company's exclusive focus on the electric distribution business. Today, ENEL Americas S.A. is one of the largest private electric companies in Latin America in terms of consolidated assets and operating income. It has achieved this through stable and balanced growth in its electric businesses, including generation, transmission, and distribution. Additionally, in 2018, the company launched a new business line called Enel X, which leads the transformation of the energy sector globally.
