Since 1893 when it was founded, Banco de Chile has become one of the biggest competitors in the Chilean banking market. In the year 2002, it merged with the Banco Edwards (the second largest bank in the country at that point), positioning the Banco de Chile as the main competitor in the industry. In 2008, it was authorized to acquire the local subsidiary of Citibank. This company belongs to the Luksic Group, with interests in finance, mining, manufacturing, food and vineyards.
