The Celtins Energy (Electric Power Company of the State of Tocantins) was established in 1989 with the goal of providing electricity to Tocantins. It was the first electric utility to be privatized in Brazil, having been bought by Rede Energia, which has assumed the challenge of developing the region's electrical system, which needed huge investments. Today Celtins operates in an area of 277,621 kilometers ², covering 139 municipalities and benefiting more than 400 thousand consumers.
