Tokuda Bank, one of Bulgaria's smallest commercial banks in terms of assets, is a successor of local Credit Express Bank.
Credit Express Bank was set up by financial house Lady VSM and MIC insurance company in 1994 and licensed for domestic banking in 1994.
The bank initially specialised in forex market operations and financial as well as investment services for larger companies or investors.
In August 1998, Osaka-registered International Hospital Services Co. bought 50.01% in Credit Express Bank of the total equity capital of BGN 15 billion. The sale enabled Credit Express to boost its capital to the BGN 10 billion minimum required by the central bank as the lender was facing licence retraction.
At the end of 2006, International Hospital Services Co. controlled 93.8% in Tokuda Bank, which managed assets of EUR 74.87 million. The lender’s assets rose to EUR 154.065 million a year later.
The bank offers its services through a network of more than 30 local units across the country.
